The Plated Prisoner Series

My Review

Gleam is Book 3 in the Plated Prisoner series and it follows on immediately from where Glint left off. (See synopsis below)

Auren has returned to Midas but she has now seen him for what he is, and is determined to be free, but plotting her escape must be done carefully. I adored seeing Auren finally see the truth and understand Midas cares only for what she can give him and not for her. I very much enjoyed her newfound determination to be freer, seeing her fight back was amazing and I just couldn’t get enough of her new defiant actions - it was everything I have been dying to see.

We have the cliff-hanger of Rip revealing who exactly he is at the end of Glint so I was dying to see how Auren would react. The interactions of Slade and Auren throughout the book were excellent, I adored the enemies to lovers’ type storyline that continued to play out. Their banter, his softness for her, and her growing attraction were all beautifully done. We all know where this storyline was headed and Kennedy made every moment count, I just adored each scene with these two and loved their growth and watching their relationship develop. The love they clearly feel but can’t express or admit was perfect, full of angst and longing and pain but also so much happiness and trust. I loved everything about these two and how their story developed, and there were some incredibly sweet moments alongside some excellent steam!

Alongside the romance storyline, the plot also had me hooked. Seeing Midas become the awful person we all know he is was like watching a car crash, I couldn’t tear my eyes away even though what was happening was awful! This all came to a pinnacle at the end, where so much happened. Wow, I won’t say too much but suffice to say it was epic and I finally got the moment I was praying would happen. The ending was a culmination of years of rage and suffering and Midas being his fully unrepentant horrific self, there were some major twists I wasn’t expecting, both of the heart-breaking and dramatic variety. The ending left us again with a cliff-hanger and am in dire need of Book 4! I cannot wait to see what will happen next and where the story will take them.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, so much so I ended up stayed up all night reading it as I just couldn’t put it down! Slade and Auren were everything I wanted and more, the plot was compelling, the suspense of not knowing how or when things would go wrong (because of course, it was never going to be easy) and an explosive ending made for a highly addictive book. I can’t recommend it enough!

Synopsis of Gleam, Book 3 in The Plated Prisoner Series

"I don't choose him. Not anymore. I'm choosing me."

King Midas made me the woman I am today. Notorious. Unattainable. His.

The thing about being confined is that you believe it’s to keep the bad out. ...Until you realize it’s about keeping you in.

I’m now in a strange kingdom surrounded by liars, with no allies of my own, but I won’t sit idly by and let myself wither. No, there’s something that’s bloomed from the pit of my repression. Something dark. Something angry.

But the last thing I expected was for my anger to call out to him. King Ravinger.

He’s sinister and powerful and entirely too seductive. I’ve learned my lesson with trusting manipulative kings, so why does my chest constrict every time he’s near? I need to tread carefully, or I’m at risk of losing much more than just my freedom.

Regret and revenge war inside of me, and I need to figure out a plan fast before I get tangled up in the schemes of kings and queens.

Because I won’t be caught in a cage again. No, this time, it’ll be me setting the trap.
…I just hope my heart comes out of this unscathed.

Please note: This is an adult fantasy series with dark elements that may be triggering, including Stockholm Syndrome and emotional manipulation, as well as explicit romance scenes. Read at your own discretion.
